CNIS (Association for the Coordination of Specialized Teachers and investigation on handicap) is an association born in 1982 and it is included in the list of qualified associations (MIUR). It is mainly characterized by the effort of training teachers.
The association is no-profit and does not have business purposes. It is included in the list of licensed associations by the board of supervisor (MPI) for the training of school staff (decree 8th August 2005). The association has a strong collaboration with academic researchers in the disability field. The president is Daniela Lucangeli, full professor and pro-rector at University of Padova.
CNIS promotes the training of teachers through many initiatives and it has the following purposes: encouraging research in the field of Learning Disabilities, of handicap and individualized interventions; supporting the diffusion of scientific information among scholastic staff; contributing to study and research programmes carried out by scientific institutes; developing investigations, studies and research; realizing a collection as complete as possible of technical and scientific documentation; publishing books, documents, scientific papers and every other informative tools directed to educational actions; organizing congresses and conferences, developing continuing education courses on the Association’s field; putting in contact Italian professionals in the Associassion’s field and creating links with similar foreign professionals.
At national level the Association organizes congresses, involving international researchers.
